How dare these people bring champagne into disrepute. Ripping people off is the job of the government.
Amber warm colour. Sweet delicate nose, a little floral, unctuous citrus.
I love the brown glass too.
A great start from Rosberg, and wild slightly underripe red fruits. Just like Alonso it’s not great, but a handsome wine nonetheless. Pity it falls off mid finish, as Alonso does mid corner. Vettel was a gentleman and gave way to Webber on the last lap. As is the wine, it’s simple yet really fantastic for for letting Webber through… hey what?
Black to the rim with some red flecks. Dry sherry, rasiny yet pruney fruit, terrific really. Dry and lovely.
Tried this about a year ago and was quite a bit sweeter than it was tonight.
Deep colour, big brooding fruit. It’s a bit simple but still lovely wine. I really love the old school medicine bottle shape, complete with brown glass.
Only some straw; still quite pale. Sherbet lemon drops.
Quite a short description today I’m afraid.
Big but subtitle buttery cream, a little oat cake and biscuit. Mandarin acid, rock melon, honey dew.
Really smart little wine that.
Church Road dinner at Malt.
The wine maker and host for the evening was Chris Scott, who came over to tell us about his lovely wines. He was a very good speaker with a lot of information.
Pinot Gris was viscous, pure with some pear and spice.
Chardonnay had oil textures, fruit salad, mild rounded citrus. Quite soft
Reserve Chardonnay was a standout, one of the best Chardonnays I’ve had in some time (until a bit later).
Straw butter. Struck flint, oat cake and nut. Grapefruit pith, rock melon, melon salad, white mulberry’s. Big gorgeous butter and oil textures. Myself and another gentleman at the dinner commented that it was reminiscent of a Montrachet.
Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon, blush, intense rich perfume, violets. Very pretty, feminine wine.
Reserve Merlot Cabernet was the opposite. More masculine meaty, concentrated, iron and bold minerals. Was sourced from the Gimblett Gravels.
TOM Chardonnay. Green fresh straw. Lots of big mineral characters, gun flint, leesy fleshy, intense rich incredible. The best smelling wine I can remember.
TOM Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot had massive cologne, dried sweet fruits, dirt earth. Lots of wow’s.
Even drinking after the Chardonnay, the Chardonnay was not shying away.
I loved this dinner. One of the best.
Pale old straw. A touch of lemon and honey, lots of lime. Tons of acid, super fresh wine.
I give it 9/10 limes.
